- English-taught master's programmes: including Computer Science, Computational Modeling and Simulation, Computational Logic, Distributed Systems Engineering and Nanoelectronic Systems.
- Strong support: the International Office advises international students on language requirements, recognised school-leaving certificates, scholarships and studying in Germany.
- Funding: DAAD EPOS full scholarships (for four selected master's programmes, applicants from developing countries), DAAD STIBET study-completion grants, and the Deutschlandstipendium (12-month merit award).
Full tuition detail (verified): TU Dresden charges no tuition fees. Students pay a semester contribution (Semesterbeitrag) of currently around €290 per semester, which covers public transport in Dresden and surrounding areas plus discounts on sports, social and cultural activities. The amount varies each semester. Per TU Dresden's official FAQ for international students.
International applicants for a degree programme generally apply via uni-assist: documents are uploaded in the uni-assist portal, checked and forwarded to TU Dresden, whose data are then transferred into TU Dresden's selma portal. TU Dresden's application switch (Bewerbungsweiche) guides each applicant to the correct route; some programmes and cases apply directly via selma.
Key points
- Application for the winter semester generally opens 1 April; exact deadlines depend on the programme (many master's close 15 July or 31 May; some have aptitude-assessment procedures with earlier deadlines).
- Applicants from some countries must submit the original APS certificate to uni-assist.
- Documents: authenticated degree/school certificates, transcripts, CV, proof of required language skills, with German- or English-language translations where needed.
- Most bachelor's programmes are German-taught (German C1 required for enrolment); English-taught master's programmes require no German proof, though basic German (A2 recommended) helps daily life.
TU Dresden charges no application fee; uni-assist charges its own handling fee. English requirements are set per programme: e.g., MSc Computer Science requires English at C1 — IELTS 7.0 (all bands ≥6.0), TOEFL iBT 100 (all sections ≥20), PTE 78 (all ≥65) or equivalent — with GRE strongly recommended for non-EU/EEA bachelor's holders.
TU Dresden offers 120+ programmes across its schools. Highlights for international students:
- MSc Computer Science (English, C1 required: IELTS 7.0 / TOEFL iBT 100) — aptitude assessment with strict subject prerequisites (90 ECTS in defined areas); GRE strongly recommended for international applicants.
- Other English-taught master's: Computational Modeling and Simulation, Computational Logic, Distributed Systems Engineering, Nanoelectronic Systems, Hydro Science and Engineering — each with its own aptitude rules and English thresholds (often B2/C1).
- Bachelor/diploma programmes — almost all German-taught; require German C1 and, where applicable, the Studienkolleg pathway.
- Medicine/Dentistry — state-examination programmes with restricted admission; non-EU application period 1 April–15 July for the winter semester.
Check the study information system SINS for each programme's exact requirements, deadlines and language of instruction.
DAAD EPOS: full scholarships for applicants from developing countries, limited to four selected master's programmes at TU Dresden — the scholarship application doubles as the study-place application, and applicants who already hold an admission letter cannot apply afterwards.
Deutschlandstipendium: 12-month merit scholarship (irrespective of income) open to enrolled students and applicants of any nationality within the standard period of study; applications open once a year, 1–15 July (next cycle 1–15 July 2027).
DAAD STIBET I: for enrolled international students — study-completion scholarships (for students expected to finish within a year) and awards for highly committed students (voluntary engagement).
- First-year awards for graduates of German schools abroad (DSD/DPS/DAS, BIDS partner schools) and funded Studienkolleg TUDIAS places.
- The DAAD scholarship database (daad.de) is TU Dresden's recommended first port of call for external funding.
Note: TU Dresden itself states it has no full-time scholarships of its own to award; most large funding comes via DAAD and the Deutschlandstipendium.
