Good to know
Prospective students whose non-German qualifications do not yet qualify for direct entry must take an assessment test at TU Berlin's Preparatory School before starting a degree program. Exchange students apply through Student Mobility and International Students.
At TU Berlin, applying and enrolling are two separate processes: you first apply to the university, and once accepted you are given a deadline for enrollment. Find out in good time which steps apply to your degree program so you can collect and upload all documents by the deadlines.
Application steps
- Choose your program and check admission type: programs have restricted admission (NC) or free admission, with different application periods for each.
- Watch the official dates and deadlines page: for example, bachelor's programs with restricted admission typically apply from early June to mid-July for the winter semester, and master's programs with restricted admission have earlier, program-specific windows (English-language master's programs with restricted admission have their own application period).
- Prepare documents: university entrance qualification or bachelor's degree documents, language proof at the level required for your program, and program-specific extras.
- Enroll after acceptance: enrollment follows the letter of acceptance via TU Berlin's tuPORT portal.
Deadlines are strict: applications and documents not submitted on time are disregarded. For mailed documents, the receipt date at TU Berlin counts. Always re-check the official dates and deadlines page, as dates are published subject to amendment.
TU Berlin's seven faculties cover Humanities and Educational Sciences, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Process Sciences, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering and Transport Systems, Planning Building Environment, and Economics and Management.
Bachelor's programs
Bachelor's programs are predominantly taught in German and require proof of German language proficiency. Applicants with non-German entrance qualifications that are not equivalent to the German Abitur must pass an assessment test at the Preparatory School first.
Master's programs
Master's programs are taught in German, in English, or bilingually, with language requirements set per program. Some programs have restricted admission (NC) with earlier application windows than free-admission programs; a few programs, such as Computational Neuroscience, have their own special deadlines. TU Berlin also offers continuing education master's programs with separate application information.
The official TU Berlin pages checked for this guide do not publish a central, degree-student scholarship list with amounts and deadlines. Prospective students should check TU Berlin's official advising pages for current funding information and consult the DAAD scholarship database for Germany-wide funding options open to international students. Always verify deadlines and eligibility on the official pages before applying.
