FUNDING DETAILS

Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme Coverage

This government partially funded scholarship for international students covers the following:

  • An annual stipend of $337,200 HKD ($43,230 USD)

  • Conference and research travel allowance of $14,000 HKD (around $1,790 USD)

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme, you need to meet the following criteria:

  • Outstanding academic performance
  • Strong research skills and potential
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Proven leadership experience

BENEFITSIf awardees require more than three years to complete their PhD, further support may be available from their selected university.
REQUIREMENTS

Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme Eligible Institutions
The eligible institutions for Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme are Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and University of Hong Kong.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

While candidates' academic excellence is of primary consideration, the Selection Panels will take into account factors as follows:

  • Academic excellence;
  • Research ability and potential;
  • Communication and interpersonal skills; and
  • Leadership abilities.
HOW TO APPLY

To apply for Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme, please follow these steps:

  1. Complete the online Initial Application through the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme Electronic System (HKPFSES) to receive an HKPFS Reference Number
  2. Select up to two programmes or departments across one or two universities
  3. After obtaining your HKPFS Reference Number, submit complete applications directly to your selected PhD programmes at the universities
  4. Include your HKPFS Reference Number with your applications
