About This Book

Chevening is the UK Government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations. It supports outstanding emerging leaders from around the world to pursue a one-year taught master’s degree at any eligible UK university. Chevening is highly competitive but transformational — scholars receive funding plus access to an international alumni network and leadership development opportunities.

Who can apply?

• Citizens of Chevening-eligible countries and territories (check the country list on the Chevening site).
• Candidates must normally have an undergraduate degree (or equivalent) that meets the entry requirements of a UK master’s programme.
• Applicants must demonstrate leadership potential, a clear study plan, and a commitment to return to their home country for at least two years after finishing the scholarship.

Requirements (typical)

Chevening’s minimum eligibility requirements include (read the country page and terms for exact, current rules):

1. Citizenship of a Chevening-eligible country.
2. Work experience: at least 2,800 hours (roughly 2 years’ full-time equivalent) of work experience after your undergraduate degree — this can be paid or unpaid, full-time or part-time.
3. Degree: an undergraduate degree that meets UK master’s entry requirements (or significant professional experience if your country page allows equivalent).
4. University choices: You must apply to three different eligible UK university courses and, by the scholarship offer stage, have at least one unconditional offer (exact timing/deadlines for offers are in Chevening guidance).
5. Return commitment: Intend to return to your home country for at least two years after your studies.

Note: Chevening is strict about deadlines and documentary evidence incomplete or late applications are usually not accepted. Always check the Chevening country page for any additional local requirements.

Deadline & selection timeline

• Applications close: 7 October 2025 at 12:00 UTC (for the 2026–27 intake). Submit your application before this exact time — the portal locks at the deadline.
• Shortlisting & interviews: After the application window closes the programme sifts applications for eligibility, shortlisting and interview stages typically follow (interviews for shortlisted candidates commonly occur Feb–Apr, with final offers announced later). Successful scholars usually commence their UK studies in September/October of the intake year.

What the scholarship offers

A standard Chevening Scholarship package may include (subject to the award type and country variation):

• Tuition fees (paid to the host university up to the limit set by Chevening/partners).
• Monthly living allowance (stipend) for the duration of the course.
• Economy return airfare between your country of residence and the UK.
• An arrival allowance and departure allowance.
• Visa costs / entry clearance fee for the scholar.
• TB test contribution (where required) and occasional travel top-up allowances.

Important: Some awards are co-sponsored or bilateral and may have slightly different coverage (check the terms and your country page). In some rare cases universities are expected to cover a portion of fees — the Chevening Terms & Conditions explain those scenarios.

How to apply (short steps)

1. Visit the Chevening website and select your country/territory page.
2. Prepare documents: degree transcripts, proof of work experience, references, and a persuasive set of application essays focusing on leadership, networking and study plans.
3. Complete the online application and pick three eligible UK courses (use the Chevening course search to confirm eligibility).
4. Submit before 12:00 UTC on 7 October 2025. Keep copies of your application and unique access code.
